Community Care — project cover

The challenge

Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Social determinants of health — housing instability, food insecurity, financial stress — account for up to 80% of health outcomes. Yet most mental health platforms treat these as outside their scope, leaving members to navigate a fragmented system on their own.

Spring Health saw an opportunity to change that. The challenge: design a product that could surface the right community resources for any member, anywhere in the country, without adding friction or complexity to an already vulnerable experience.

"The members who need support most are often the least equipped to find it on their own."

The product

Community resources, connected to care.

Community Care is a first-of-its-kind feature within Spring Health that connects members to vetted community resources — food banks, housing assistance, financial aid programs, childcare, transportation, and more — all within the Spring Health experience. No external searches, no dead links, no overwhelm.

I led the design from initial concept through launch, running discovery research with members and care navigators, shaping the information architecture, and crafting a mobile-first experience that balanced warmth with practicality.

Key screens

Designed for trust, clarity, and action.

Every design decision prioritized the emotional reality of members seeking help. The browsing experience is organized by need — not category labels that might stigmatize — and every resource card leads to clear, actionable next steps.

Equity by design, measurable at scale.

Community Care launched across all 50 states, making Spring Health one of the first mental health platforms to address SDOH at national scale. The product was recognized in major press coverage and cited as a model for equity-centered design in behavioral healthcare.

Beyond the metrics, the work demonstrated that meeting members' whole-person needs isn't a distraction from mental healthcare — it's essential to it.
